Pirates and the UN

Published by The Federalist at 4:46 pm under International, NEW Edit This

An update on MSNBC stated that American war ships are deterring other pirates from helping the boat holding an American hostage. Several nations have joined in giving their opinions on the issue. However, the Vice President of the Philippines, Mr. Noli de Castro, said something that seems to me completely absurd. He mentioned that “any military action is best done in consultation with the United Nations to gain the support and cooperation of other countries.” Now, I understand that the safety of the hostage is priority one. However, this is an American hostage and there is no reason why the US should have to wait for the slow and often inefficient UN council to decide what to do. Sorry Mr. de Castro, but I believe that it is the in best interest of the US and the hostage to not involve the UN.
